Art making is a diary, a visual form of journaling. I work through ideas and impressions while making. The process becomes the confessional, the objects themselves artifacts of emotion.
I am currently working in abstractions of the female form, exploring the notion of physical pride and emotional protection. I love the duality of the body as Object, something to flaunt! And as Armor, a way of guarding. There is a stance, an attitude of defending oneself. Of showing off, as well as hiding, equally. I am exploring emotional content that is expressed physically. Whether an aggressive defense or a more subtle camouflage, it is a form of armor.
A Fine Arts background in Sculpture has instilled in me an appreciation for precision and craftsmanship, however I respond emotionally to a low-tech aesthetic. I value the relative immediacy of mixed media and found objects. The materials are manipulated to serve a mood and expression that shapes the “moment” in which a piece is created.
